Abstract Economic regionalism is one of the major trends in current world economic development. In early 1990' s,with the formation of 3 great economic groups of West Europe, North America and Asian-Pacific region,world economy has come into the new stage of regionalism.In order to strengthen its competitiveness to fit in the new changes in global political and economic environment,the strengthening of economic cooperation and integration between countries and areas in the Asian:pacific region is very much desired to promote regional economic cooperation and development. However,due to large spread of areas,too many countries and areas,different levels of economic development,great distinction in value outlook,political and economic systems, religion and cultral tradition, it won' t be easy to form a single systematic regional group.with all kinds of proposals coming out in the late 1980' s,the strong desire for establishing Asian-Pacific economic and trade group has been expressed. It involves the following 'Asian-Pacific Economic Cooperation', 'ASEAN Free Trade Zone', 'East Asian Economic Circle', 'Yellow Sea Rim Economic Circle', 'China Economic Circle' and 'Community of Asian Countries and Areas' etc.Faced with the new changes of international environment and the strong impact of economic regionalism,what should China do? The author points cut: first, China should establish a new concept of participating in worldwide economic groups and spare no efforts to take an active role in the activities of regional economic groups;secondly, China should choose and join what is good; thirdly, China should create excellent conditions for joining regional economic groups;at last, China should establish 'Regional Economic Groups Office' subordinate to Chinese Foreign Trade Promotion Committee so as to carry out business.
