Lexical connotation refers to such kind of meaning as is additional, nonstandard and always calls forth associations in our mind. Nonetheless, it is crucial in language study to such a high extent that the real meaning of a word or phrase can't be obtained without the analysis of its connotative meaning. On the basis of social and individual levels, this paper tries to explore the leading factors as to the generation of differences in people's understanding of the same lexical item. It ends with a distinct conclusion that cultural factors and personal experiences play an important role in lexical connotation.
