翻译的目标

The Aim of Translation

通过实例说明翻译中的错误可以造成多么严重的后果 ,进而阐说翻译质量的首要关键在于译者从事翻译以什么为目标。如果以词句对等或译文文字流畅为目标 ,往往难免阴差阳错。我们必须明确翻译就是信息传递 ,而要使译文读者获得正确的信息 ,唯一切实的办法就是在翻译中以效果对等为目标 ,创造出充分反映原文精神实质和艺术风格的译文。这当然不是轻而易举可以达到的目标 ,但是本文以切合实际的理论阐说和相应的实例说明我们只要有明确的认识 ,在翻译实践中始终坚持首先明确原文对原文读者产生什么效果 ,然后力求译文对读者产生尽可能接近的效果 。

Faulty translations could affect the minds of millions of people. This paper argues that a key issue affecting translation quality is the translator's aim.Aiming at verbal equivalence or verve in the translation often leads to serious errors. We must set our aim in accordance with a proper understanding of the nature of translation. As translation means the transference of messages, we need to aim at equivalent effect in translation, so that the TL readers may get a message as close as possible to what the SL readers get.It is not an easy objective, but this paper shows with practical examples that it is within reach if we always persist in first thoroughly finding out exactly what effect the SL text has on its readers, and then doing our best to achieve the closest possible effect in the TL environment.
