翻译标准浅说

On Criteria of Translation

翻译理论的对象性决定了它的对策性，而翻译标准决定了译品的质量和所传达的思想。十九世纪以来，我国翻译标准大体是以严复先生提出的“信、达、雅”为标准的。期间也有别的提法，如“忠实、通顺”等，但都没有“信、达、雅”更有说服力的。可是“信、达、雅”也非绝对的标准，适合于任何体裁的翻译，有人亦提出它的局限性。那么什么样的翻译标准才能更好地适应各种类型的翻译，有待于我们进一步探讨。

The strategy of translation theory is decided by its objects,while the puality of translation and the thought it conveys depends on the criteria of translation. Generally speaking,'Faithfulness, Fluency, Elegance' wasconsidered as the criteria of translation ever since 19th century,which was presented by Yanfu. In this period, some other criteria of translation wer presented, such as 'Faithfulness, Smoothness', but they are nor so persuasive. However, it doesnt mean that Yanfu's theory is the only one of translation that fits in with various kinds of translation,it has its limitations too. Then what sort of criteria of trans lation can keep pace with various translations. It remains to be discussed.
