A Cognitive Comparative Study On Body-part Terms in Chinese and in English

该文通过对英语和汉语中具有转义用法的人体词语进行比较,以认知语言学认知模式 (cog nitivemodels)和文化模式(culturalmodels)理论为依据,揭示了人体词语符号中显现的人类思维共性和文化差异性。英语和汉语中具有转义用法的人体词语的产生都是隐喻性思维和转喻性思维的结果。由于英语民族和汉族的文化模型的差异性,英汉人体词语的转义用法存在差异性。

This paper makes contrastive analysis of semantic transfer of body-part terms in Chinese and in English. By taking advantage of the theory of cognitive models and cultural models advanced by cognitive linguists, this paper shows the universal human thinking and cultural difference revealed by body-part terms in Chinese and in English. Semantic transfer of body-part terms in both Chinese and English is the result of metaphoric and metonymic thinking. Due to differences in cultural models, the usages of body-part terms with transferred meaning are different.
