Objective:To compare the efficacy of the protocol for treatment of STD recommended in CDC Guidebook, USA, and that composed by this center, and a more effective and rational protocol for treatment of STD in females, thereby eliminating mother- infant transmission due to ineffective therapy. Methods: 1555 female patients with STD were randomized into two groups in the proportion of 1 to 1.3: the CDC protocol group (n = 548) and our protocol group (n = 1007). Their efficacy was evaluated separately. Results: The cure rate and good response rate in the CDC protocol group were 78.65% and 15.7% , respectively, whereas those in our protocol group were 94.44% and 4.28% , respectively, with a significant difference. The occurrence rate of side effects in our protocol group was higher than that in the CDC protocol group; gastrointestinal reactions occurred in 12% - 17% of total number of patients and nervous system symptoms developed in 5% of total number of cases. Conclusions: The cure rate in our protocol group is higher than that in the CDC protocol group, but has a higher occurrence rate of side effects which need symptomatic treatment; it is a rattional protocol after all.
