四字词组不等于成语。它包括自由词组和固定词组。四字词组在汉语中很受欢迎,主要有三方面的原因。对如何翻译固定词组,即成语,已经有太多的研究。而自由词组的翻译却没有引起太多关注。这篇文章将主要讨论几种翻译自由词组的方法。

Four-character phrases are widely used in Chinese. They are different from idioms. Generally speaking, there are two types of four-character-phrase: set phrases and free phrases. Many researches have been done on the translation of set phrases, while the translation of free phrases has not been paid much attention to. This paper is to discuss several ways of translating four-character free phrases.
