On the Creation of Dickens' Novel Characters

全文从小说的历史发展过程中解读狄更斯人物创造的方式,探求他对神话和18世纪流浪汉小说的继承与发展,并对其人物是否属于"典型"范畴置疑。神话象征手法及其神话的时空观,以及18世纪流浪汉小说故事性与平民化的特征对狄更斯的人物创作产生了深远的影响,这些影响与他的创作偏好相结合,如市民世界的象征性和细节化的漫画手法等,形成了其特有的同时有着缺憾的扁形人物塑造方式。

The author tried to interpret the way Charles Dickens shapes his characters in his saga novels in terms of the development of fiction. This paper researches into how Dickens inherited and developed the tradition of Myth and the Picaresque Novels of the Eighteenth century, thus oppugns the idea that Dickens' characters are so-called Typical Characters. Mythic symbol and mythic space-time, together with the Narrative and Civilian traits of the picaresque novels of the Eighteenth century have profound influence on Dickens' characters. Those influences, working together with Dickens' unique creation——symbolization of citizen world and detailed caricature, formed his particular yet imperfect way of creating flat characters.
