Ibsen’s Nora, the first woman to pronounce the “Women Declaration of Independence”, plays a significant role in the world literature as well as the women’s liberation movement. George Bernard Shaw’s Candida and Hu Shi’s The Greatest Event in Life are just the two plays written under Ibsen and Nora’s impact. Through the comparative study of women images in these three plays, it is clear to see that Nora and Nora type women compose a colorful portrait gallery of New Women in the world literature and Nora is not only an outstanding heroine in a play, but an eternal symbol of women’s awakening and liberation.
