An Idea of Establishing the Wuhan Study

武汉学是对武汉的历史文化与现实问题进行专题和综合研究的整合型学科,是城市地方学的一个分支。它以武汉地区丰富的特色文化资源为研究背景,以既有的广泛研究成果为基础。创建武汉学的条件业已成熟,并将产生较高的学术和社会价值。但是,作为一门初创之学,武汉学需要在市政府和广大研究人员的通力合作下建立和完善学科体系,深入探讨武汉学的研究对象和研究方法,设立专门的学术研究机构,开展国内外合作研究,将武汉研究推向深入。

Wuhan study is an integrated branch of learning that studies Wuhan’s history, culture, and current issues. It should be categorized as a disciplinary part of urban studies. It has Wuhan’s rich and special cultural resources as it background and extensive research achievement as its foundation. Conditions are mature for the establishment of this branch of learning and the establishment will prove valuable both academically and socially. However, as a newly-establishment, it needs, supported by full cooperation from both the municipal government and a large number of researchers, to construct a scientific disciplinary system, design its study objectives and approaches, set up special academic research bodies, and carry out joint research both domestically and with foreign scholars.
