In this paper, we first review some basic definitions and properties of generalized Hamiltonian systems defined on any (finite) dimensional Poisson manifolds, and then present some new results on stability of equilibria of generalized Hamiltonian systems. Finally, to illustrate the applications in the qualitatively study of high dimensional differential equations, two examples are given, they are the planar relative motion of three vortices and the biomathematical model of three samples.
