By concentrating on the two possible prospects faced by Sarah, the heroine in Margarette Drabble's novel A Summer Bird-Cage, the present paper believes that even though Sarah is depressed by the life pictures demonstrated by her friends, she boldly takes up her life in the hope that a beautiful future is within her power, because she is determined to face life difficulties and to make concessions if necessary.
