The Comparison Between Xue Ju zheng's and Ou Yang xiu's Historical Remark

薛居正、欧阳修史论不同之处主要是 :薛热衷于论说君臣之道 ,强调臣下不侵君权、功高而能自抑 ,君主知人善任而又驾驭有方 ;欧则对朋党利弊和宦官伶官之害评说充分、深刻。除此之外 ,薛解释历史发展强调“天命” ,而欧强调“人事” ;欧评说历史引经据典只以儒家学说为根据 ,而薛要宽泛得多。

Their differences mainly lie in:Xue Ju zheng concentrated on discussing the relationship between the monarch and the ministers,and he emphasized that the ministers should not exceed the authority of the monarch and they should be modest in spite of their prominent contribution.At the same time,he still emphasized that the monarch should appoint officers according to the character and ability of the intellectual and know well how to control them; but Ou Yang xiu gave a full and deep comment on the advantages and disadvantages of the struggle among the cliques and also such a comment on the perniciousness of the eunuches and the officers who used to act.Besides that,Xue put an emphasis on the destiny,whereas,Ou emphasized man activities when they explained the historical prosperity and downfall; when they commented on the history,Ou usually quoted the classics of the Confucianism only,while Xue quoted the classics much more widely.
