嵇文甫早在20世纪20年代就接受了马克思主义，并以此为指导研究中国历史的发展。新中国建立后，他积极宣传普及唯物史观，领导中国新史学研究会河南分会，创办了《新史学通讯》。他一生致力于历史问题的现实考察，构建了历史评价的理论体系，书写了中国马克思主义史学发展史上的精彩篇章。他一贯强调根据中国历史的特点总结规律，对具体问题作具体分析，始终捍卫着历史主义以及阶级分析必须与历史主义相结合的原则，为中国马克思主义史学的发展作出了突出贡献。

Ji Wen Fu accepted Marxism in the 1920s. From then on, he studied the development of Chinese history with the guidelines of Marxism. After the People' s Republic of China was founded, he propagandized materialistic historical views actively and universally, led He Nan branch of the New historical Association, and originated The Communication of New History. He devoted his life to reviewin g historical problems on the basis of realities. He created the theoretical syst em of the historical value, which is very important in the history of Chinese Ma rxist. He made a remarkable contribution to the development of Chinese Marxist h istory in emphasizing that we should come to a conclusion according to the chara cteristic of Chinese history and protecting the historism and the combination of historism and rank analysis.
