Metaphors are pervasive in both language and thought. The production of linguistic metaphors is consciously or unconsciously guided by conceptual metaphors. By analyzing the results of an experiment and discussing their significance, this article suggests that the vocabulary learning concerns not only the surface structure of language but also the hidden forms of conceptual metaphors.
