诗不厌改,贵乎精也——许渊冲先生诗词改译研究

On Revision of Poetry Translation by Prof. Xu Yuanchong

古今中外的著名诗人,于诗歌创作的过程当中,莫不字斟句酌、反复修改,体现了对诗歌艺术的不懈追求。诗歌翻译一如诗歌创作,亦需如琢如磨、精益求精的"求美"精神。诗词翻译家许渊冲先生于大量的诗词翻译之外,几十年来一直坚持三番五次的诗歌改译,锲而不舍,如琢如磨。本文通过对许渊冲先生诗词改译的个案研究,希望能给中国古典诗词的英译带来启迪。

All the accomplished poets lose no time in revising their poems when there arises the occasion, through which their pursuit for perfection in poetry is revealed. This situation applies also to poetry translation, which is regarded as a kind of creation. Along with his voluminous poetry translations, professor Xu Yuanchong, as a distinguished translator, has been revising his poetry translations for decades. Through a case study on the translator's revisions, this paper aims at throwing some light on the English translation of ancient Chinese poems.
