The Meaning of Divinity——On “Side City”by Shen Congwen

沈从文的主要文学贡献是用小说与散文建造起他特异的“湘西世界”。“湘西世界”有着特殊的审美价值,能够让人了解另一种“人生形式”,从而获得“生命的明悟”。“湘西世界”就是沈从文理想人生的缩影,是他现实与梦幻的交织。他一方面试图在文本中挽留湘西的神话,另一方面在作品中已经预见到“湘西世界”的无法挽回的历史命运。以《边城》为例分析闪耀在沈从文身上的浪漫主义和古典主义式的情怀,可以深化这种艺术体验。

“West Xiang World”in the novels and proses is Shen Congwen’s main contribution to literature. “West Xiang World”has a special aesthetic value. It enables readers to know another “Life Style”and gain “new sentiment toward life”. It is a reduction of She Congwen ‘s ideal life mingling his reality with his dream.. On the one hand, he tried to save the myth of West Xiang. On the other hand, he has already predicted that it is impossible to save its historical fate in his novel. Based on “Side City”, romanticism and classicism from Sheng’s West Xiang World have been analysed in the study.
