在国业与家业之间——晚清报人陈范评议

Commenting on Journalist Chen Fan in the Late Qing Dynasty

陈范是晚清时期民间报人中一个具有代表性的人物。他不仅对报业发展富有远见卓识,而且在主掌《苏报》期间,展现出过人的报业才智。陈范接办《苏报》固然存在商业动机,但是襟怀天下、以道自任的文人本性却使他更加倾向“以清议救天下”,因而《苏报》始终能独持思想个性,弹奏时代的主旋律,成为引领舆论风骚的报界巨擘。

Chen Fan(陈范) who was a famous journalist among the folk newspaper men in the late Qing Dynasty had wide views on the development of newspapering, he showed extraordinary ability and wisdom when he was in charge of newspaper Su Bao(苏报). Of course, there were some purpose of making profit for Chen Fan's running the newspaper Su Bao, however, he also aspired to “save the country by just comment ”,which reflected the natural character of scholars. Therefore, it is possible for newspaper Su Bao to preserve distinct characteristic of thought all along and thus became a newspaper giant of that time.
