“吉林”地名探析

A Discussion on the Placename of Jilin

吉林作为地方建置名和城名、地名,最早始于康熙十二年(1673年)。吉林城得名于吉林江,即今松花江。传统观点认为“吉林”一词意为“沿”或“靠近”,这种看法是不正确的。其正确含义是“带”或“一带”。

As the name of local establishment and organization, and as a name of a city or a placename, “Jilin” appeared during the 12th year of emperor Kangxi(1673) for the first time. Jilin city was named after Jilin River-namely Songhua River today. The traditional view which the meaning of Jilin is “along” or “near” is not correct. In my opinion, the accurate meaning of Jilin is “zone” or “district”.
