VoIP has become the favorable service in American telecom market. RBOC has to speed up deploying VoIP in order to keep ahead of other cable MSOs, IXCs and special network service providers on voice service. This article describes the motives and challenges of RBOC in deploying VoIP. The progress and long-term network planning of RBOCs like Verizon,SBC,BellSouth and Qwest are introduced.
