At the conventional development stage of Geodesy,terrain is mainly represented by contours because of the means limitation of data collection and cartography.With the development of information technology in Geodesy,more methods are provided to represent terrain,and digital representation forms like DEM become main representation forms.This paper makes an overall comparison between the characteristics of DEM and contour in terrain representation.
