Culture, Economy, and Society: A Multidimensional Perspective of the Underworld in China

文章着重研究了秘密社会或黑社会问题的缘起,介绍了前人的研究状况及秘密社会与黑社会两个概念之间的关系,指出当代中国黑社会是传统中国秘密社会在社会转型期间的变异。同时还分析了当代中国黑社会(黑帮)组织类型与人员构成以及当代中国秘密社会的生成因素,指出经济、社会与文化三因素催生了黑社会。

This paper elaborates on the origin of the underworld, or the criminal syndicate. By reviewing the hitherto studies on the topic and formulating the relationship between the two terms, it argues that criminal syndicates in China are mutation of the underworld in a period of social transformation. It also analyzes the types of mafia organizations (sinister gangs) in the country, the makeup of their members, and the generative factors for them, concluding that it is the economy, the society and the culture that stimulate the growth of criminal groups.
