Evolution and coming back ——Review on the development of Chinese modern social trend of thought from the people-as-foundation to the right of people and democracy

近代中国社会思潮总的来说是沿着由民本到民权,再到民主思想这一脉络发展的。但在进化的同时,又有回归的一面,主要表现为把西方资产阶级民主思想和社会制度说成是中国古已有之,并用传统的民本思想来附会西方的民权和民主思想。在进化的同时伴随着回归,从而形成近代中国思想发展史上一种奇特的历史现象。

Modern Chinese social trend of thought develops from the people-as-foundation to the right of people and democracy. In the meantime, it has the trend of coming back. This is shown by the fact that the western bourgeois ideas and social system are regarded as those having existed in China since ancient time. And that Chinese traditional thought of the people-as-foundation is used to explain western ideas of the right of people and democracy. The trend of that evolution and coming back has been mutual interlacing. This forms a sort of peculiar historical phenomenon in the development of Chinese modern thought.
