A Probe into the Brilliance of the Chinese Soul: On the “Chinese-culture Root” in the Construction of Zong Bai-hua’s Metaphysical Poetics

在创新实践中,宗白华遵循兼具西方“理智”精神和中华传统的“元学”精神的理路建构起他系统化而深具民族根性的形上诗学大厦:从论述艺术主体、艺术文本、接受者与世界(“道”)之间的关系中将生命的广大境界和宇宙的奥境统一于其独特的美学感悟。宗白华形上诗学体系的内在精神充分体现出宗先生对中华学术千百年来寻觅宇宙人生奥秘之“道”的穿透性领悟。

Zong Bai-hua, a well-known modern scholar who exerts every possible effort to explore “the most proper way to construct our ‘new culture’, makes it manifest that we have been making great mistakes in trying to merge the Chinese cultures into western cultures. To go beyond this, according to him, “the pursuing of truth” instead of “the fusing of eastern and western cultures” is the best solution. Mr. Zong has set us a good example in applying his idea into constructing his metaphysical poetics: he manages to accomplish his systematic theory of poetics on the basis of his reflections on the cosmos,with the perspective of the Chinese esthetics of anima. The essence of his metaphysical poetics, based on his profound insights into the Chinese traditional culture, shedding light on an abstruse way of how esthetic beauty is identical with truth, is the composite of “Tao”and “art”.
