摘要
非私人化理论不仅是现代主义诗学中重要的创作方法论,而且其影响亦波及现代主义之后的文学创作和评论。本文述评了首先提出该理论的艾略特的主张,以及其同时代诗人叶芝的类似思想,而且以美国“忏悔诗”名作“女拉撒路”为例说明了非私人化理论在文学作品中的具体表现,阐释了其功效和意义,并论证了其优越性和局限性。非私人化有利于使读者借助共有知识理解作品的意旨,但若过分强调,势必会使作品脱离生活,流于程式化。好的作品都是私人性和非私人性元素平衡结合的结果。
The impersonal theory of poetry, initiated by T. S. Eliot, was an important theory of modem poetics. It has also influenced the post modernistic writings and criticism. Eliot's as well as Yeats' viewpoints on this theory are commented in this paper. Furthermore, the author applies this theory to analysis of a piece of post-modernistic poem, Sylvia Plath's 'Lady Lazarus', concluding that any successful literary work is to be balanced between personal and impersonal elements. The author also maintains that the theory of impersonality is helpful for readers to understand the meanings of a certain literary text with the shared understanding of the culture, but if overemphasized, it might turn to be stereotyped, away from real life.
