Protecting Chinese Traditional Brands of Fancy Agricultural Products by Means of Geographical Indications

实施地理标志保护制度将提高我国农产品生产及贸易水平、加强市场竞争力,使我国农业发挥显著的比较优势。本文分析了农业体系在农产品地理保护中的重要作用,并提出对我国东北大豆实施地理标志保护的建议。

The protection of Geographical Indications (GIs) in WTO-TRIPS is of special importance to the international trade of agricultural products. There are numerous traditional agricultural products in China that are well known from their place of origin. They are known for their superior quality, high reputation, or other valuable characteristics. All these values are to be protected by GIs. Protection of GIs will benefit agricultural production and trade, sharpen its competitive edge in the market, and strengthen China’s comparative advantage. Specifically, as a case, the author suggests protecting the “Soybeans of Northeast China”
