约翰逊执政时期,一方面有限地保持了对华政策的松动状态,与中国进行有限接触,实行“遏制但不孤立”的政策。另一方面仍在国际上维护“中华民国”的“法权地位”,继续“协防”台湾,同时阻止台湾反攻大陆,美台关系进入了一个复杂而微妙的历史阶段。

When Johnson was in power, he adopted a flexible policy towards China——to keep in limited touch but not to isolate. On the other hand, he tried to maintaining the Legal Status of the Republic of China. Assisting Taiwan to guard against China, he also prevented Taiwan from counterattacking the mainland.
