Mao Tse-tung's Cultural Consciousness

文化自觉是一种正确、健康的文化观。毛泽东主张批判地继承中国传统文化,批判地吸收外国文化,建设新民主主义的文化,建设社会主义文化。他的文化自觉围绕建设中国先进文化的主题,立足为人民服务的基点,坚持推陈出新、使马克思主义中国化的原则。它是近代以来"古今中西"文化论争的理性总结,是中国人民进行革命斗争和初步探索社会主义文化建设的指导思想,是有中国特色社会主义的文化自觉的历史起点和认识基础。

Cultural consciousness is a correct and healthy cultural viewpoints. Mao Tse-tung advocated inheriting Chinese traditional culture critically and assimilating the culture of foreign countries critically, meanwhile he advocated building up the culture of new democracy and socialist culture. Based on serving for the people, Mao Tse-tung's cultural consciousness is centred on developing Chinese advanced culture and maintains the principle of bringing forth the new from the old and sincicizing Maxism. It is a reasonable conclusion of cultural discussion in modern times; it is the guiding principle of Chinese people's revolutionary work and initially exploring the development of socialist culture; it is the historical starting-point and cognitive basis of socialist cultural consciousness with Chinese characteristics.
