Abstract This study reports a model of delayed cerebral vasospasm(DCVS) in dogs.Subarachnoid hemorrhage(SAH) and subsequent DCVS were induced by the cisterna magna injections of fresh autoligous blood 48 hours at twice. The dogs were sacrificed 6 days the sacond injection. The brains were observed to identify the large amouns of subarachnoid blood clots around the basilar cisterna of the brain.Angiographic narrowing of the basilar arteries was presented 5 days after the second injection with an incidence of 100%.The severe spasm was in 60%,the moderate spasm in 33.3% and the mild spasm in 6.7%.The spasic basilar arteries showed ultrastructural changes in all layers of the vascular wall with electron microscopic examination. These data suggest that DCVS induced by two cisterns injection is the model of reliability, with high incidence and easy operation.
