A brief analysis of the ways of SU Shi making the poetry in his age elegant

苏轼的人格具有十分典型的意义,他通过自己的生命实践达到了中国士大夫人格的最高境界。苏轼的这种人格境界使他在文学上作出了卓异的贡献,尤其表现在对词的雅化方面。苏轼使词雅化的方式主要表现在三个方面:一是以词来表现深厚的文化意蕴;二是"以诗为词";三是词中富有理趣。苏轼使词摆脱了乐曲附庸的地位,成为独立、自由的新诗体。

SU Shi's personality has typical meanings. His revolutionary and literary activities fully embody the spirit of ancient Chinese scholars. This personality enables him to make a great contribution to Chinese literature, esp. in making the poetry in his age elegant. There are 3 ways of doing so: the first is to express the profound meanings of culture; the second is to enrich the contents of poetry; the third is to give it philosophical meanings. Thus he makes the poetry in his age have an independent free style different from music.
