艾米莉·勃朗特和劳伦斯都使用了独白和象征这两种创作手法,展示人物思想情感,分析人物心理。艾米莉·勃朗特使用的是戏剧独白这种古老的人物道白方式,读者听到的是作品人物发自内心深处的呼喊;而劳伦斯使用的是叙述性独白,读者的思绪和情感同作品人物叠合,与作品人物同悲哀、同欢乐、同痛苦。艾米莉·勃朗特是在传统象征手法的层面上运用象征,象征意义是单一、明确和清晰的;劳伦斯是在象征主义创作论的层面上运用象征,象征意义是多变、多重复合并具有再造的特点。
Emily Bronte and D. H. Lawrence employ the writing crafts of monologue and symbolism to reveal the characters' thoughts and feelings and analyze their psychological activities. In Wuthering Heights, soliloquy is widely used, through which characters directly express their inner thoughts and feelings. D. H. Lawrence uses narrated monologue. Readers think what characters think and feel what characters feel. Emily uses traditional symbolic device. The symbolic meaning is single, definite, and clear-cut. What D. H. Lawrence uses is symbolic device in symbolism originated in France since the 19th century. The symbolic meaning is flexible and complex.
