Shakespeare is a classic who is still exciting to readers in modern time and the appeal of his dramas always draws translators to try to reproduce them in other languages. Different Chinese versions of Shakespeare have made it possible and necessary for today's Chinese readers to interpret this world classic across time and space. Since Chinese and English bear a great number of differences in culture and numerous images in Shakespearean dramas convey much cultural information, the translation of those images need engage our special interest. This essay is to investigate the translation of images in three Chinese versions (chronologically rendered by ZHU Sheng hao, LIANG Shi qiu and FANG Ping) so as to witness and understand the transition of aesthetic and cultural psychology of the subject of translation.
