Influencing of the Confucian Ethical Code on the Relations between Husband and Wife in the Han Dynasty

汉代的统治者和思想家充分意识到规范夫妇关系对于维护统治秩序的重要性,在礼教发展定型的过程中,这对基本的社会关系被详加论述。由于统治阶级的大力倡导,礼教对夫妇关系产生了一定的影响,其主要表现在:家庭生活中主从关系的确立;婚姻关系上的严重失衡;亲密的感情为严峻的礼法所代替。从西汉到东汉,这种影响由浅入深,在汉末又有所减弱,整体上呈现出动态变化的趋势。

The rulers and thinkers of the Han Dynasty were fully conscious of the impotence of the regulation of the relations between husband and wife to the maintenance of the public order. These basic relations were being discussed and standardized completely when the Confucian ethical was shaping up. Because of the rulers' avocation, the Confucian ethical code had some influences on the relationship, such as forming the principal-subordinate relationship between husband and wife, making the relationship of marriage quietly unequal, substituting severe etiquettes for intimacy and so on. Influencing of the Confucian Ethical Code was a dynamic process from shallow to deep during the Han Dynasty while being reduced in the end.
