British and Thai scholars argue that the ethnic Thais originated from the southern part of China and Nanzhao was the country that they established.When Kublai Khan troops invaded and occupied Dali,the ethnic Thais migrated southwards in large numbers.Prof.Chen Xujing was one of the first Chinese scholars who challenged the British and Thai proposition and made scholarly contributions to the Thai studies.
