在毛泽东看来,东方落后国家要赶上或超过西方发达国家,可以不必等待生产力的常规发展,而可以借助发达资本主义国家的一切先进文明成果,首先进行无产阶级革命,夺取政权,实现社会形态的跨越式发展,然后在社会主义社会制度的前提下,打破常规,实施生产力跨越式发展战略,大力发展经济,创造和巩固社会主义的物质基础。

As Mao Zedong suggests, if the Oriental underdeveloped country want to overtake or to overstep the Western developed country, she should make full use of all of the advanced civilization of the Western developed capitalist countries rather than wait for the routine development of the productive forces. Firstly, she should carry out the proletarian revolution, seize the state power and realize the leap-step development of the social formation. Secondly, with the socialist ownership, she should break with convention, carry out the leap-type development strategy, and devote major efforts to developing the economy for creating and strengthening the socialist material base.
