“迷惘的一代”作家、诺贝尔文学奖得主欧内斯特·海明威以他非凡的才华和真实的情感写出了一部部几乎是美国文学史上最优秀的小说。短篇小说《乞力马扎罗的雪》是其中之一。海明威的短篇小说《乞力马扎罗的雪》充分反映了美国20世纪20年代理想破灭、精神空虚与孤独的“迷惘一代”的坎坷命运。笔者通过对美国战后的一代人的精神危机,着重从男女主人公在动荡的历史背景下对爱情的态度与追求截然不同出发,分析了海伦的无私给予、哈利的麻木索取;海伦的温柔体贴、哈利的冷酷无情;指出是战争毁了人们的理想与爱情,战后的和平与繁荣亦无法抚平他们心灵上的创伤;小说中男女主人公都曾想与命运抗争,最终都以失败告终。高大、宏伟、洁白无暇的乞力马扎罗山被哈得看作是“上帝的庙殿”,但对于海伦却是渴望而不可及的地方。透过《乞力马扎罗的雪》中无望与无爱的“爱情”,海明威激起了我们对战争的痛恨与谴责、对自由与和平的追求、对爱情的珍惜及对妇女前途、命运的探索。

With his outstanding talent and real emotion, Ernest Hemingway, the writer of 'the lost generation'and the winner of the Nobel Prize of literature, has produced many excellent novels in American literary history. The Snow on kilimanjaro is one of them. This novel tells us something about people in the 20's of the 20th century in America.The war had broken their hope. They feel lost and lonely.In such situations,their motivation and attitude of pursuing love are quite different.Here in this paper,Harry and Hellen's different notions of love are analyzed and something is revealed about the natred of war, the pursuit of freedom and peace, the treasure of love and the exploration of womrn's future.
