摘要 As we begin the 21st century, several themes in English Language Teaching (ELT) have come to the forefront. Some of these have particular relevance for teaching English at tertiary level by virtue of the fact that university students are young adults expected to use English in a modern global context upon graduation, albeit to different degrees. In designing the English curricula for students at tertiary level,their eventual occupational needs must of course be borne in mind; hence, English for Specific or Professional Purposes (ESP or EPP) is still a central tenet for English at tertiary level.
