Ninety-six pigs (Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshine) were fed a corn-soybean basal diet (control) or a diet containing 10mg/kg cadmium (Cadmium-treated). Pigs (initially 27kg) were randomLy allocated to one of two dietary treatments with three replicates to determine the effect of cadmium on growth performance, relative endocrine system and relative weight of organs until the pigs reach 90kg weight. The study result show that 10.0mg/kg cadmium decreases porcine growth and affects growth hormone in serum. Average daily gain is decreased by 18.6% (P<0.05) and feed gain ratio is decreased by 15.1%(P<0.05); serum growth hormone level is depressed by 36.5%(P<0.05); T 3 and T 4 contents are not affected by cadmium (P>0.05); relative weights of liver, spleen, lymphaden and thymus are increased by 15.1%(P<0.05), 19.7%(P<0.05), 30.7%(P<0.05), and 33.3%(P<0.05) respectively. There is no significant effect to the relative weights for other organs (P>0.05).
