Rethinking Some Theoretical Problems in Architecture

本文主张本着分析精神和适度整体论的观念,自觉地对建筑理论中有关概念、性质、表达以及诠释等问题进行反思,探讨建筑内在的、处于文化之中的结构性关联,以回应当代思想界对建筑问题的思考。应该意识到建筑语言在语义学方面的局限性,建筑在表现方面就不应承载过多。而建筑艺术的自身精炼过程具有一定的自主性,与诗学类似。品质方面的保证是基础性的。

The thesis suggests that we rethink consciously the problems about concepts, characteristics, communication and explanation in architectural theory in the light of analysis and appropriate holism, and probe the inner structural relations of architecture in culture as a response to the thoughts over architecture from contemporary philosophy and cultural critics. We should face up to the reality that architectural language is within certain confines at the level of semiotics and thus could not be expected too much in expression. And the self-refinement in architectural arts, similar to poetics, enjoys independence to some extent. It is foundamental to have basic qualitative guarantee.
