The differences of omission and substitution between English and Chinese find expression in the following: the difference in the use of idioms, contextualization, zeugma and omission. The use of Chinese pronouns is more flexible than that of English pronouns while the latter have a wider use and are more in number. Their causes include the following: English has more inflections with more substitutions than Chinese and they have different cultural contexts. Chinese emphasizes more on its beautiful form than English.
