A Study of the Upper Extremity Function Test

This is a study to examine the reliability and validity of a revised Douglas Carroll Upper Extremity Function Test (UEFT). Preliminary result was obtained from 19 patients. A reliability re-test of UEFT showed that the test is highly reliable (R = 0. 99, P<0. 01). This is highly correlated with the upper extremity and arm stabillity subtests of Barthel index (R = 0. 70, R = 0. 84, P<0. 01). It is also highly correlated with WHO classification and Brunnstrom classification (R= -0. 95, R = 0. 89, P<0. 01). This study showed that UEFT has the advantages of being simple, practical and precise. It can be a reliable test reflecting the changes of upper extremity during clinical rehabilitation treatment in diagnosing and evaluating upper extremity functions.
