己卯本庚辰本上的人名英菊、蔡信、逄渊、薛蟠字文起、代玉,在甲戌本上依次对应为英莲(谐音应怜)、余信(谐音愚性)、冯渊(谐音逢冤)、薛蟠字文龙、黛玉,这体现了文本由粗稿向精稿的修改规律。因此,甲戌本必当成书于己卯本庚辰本后;该本据以命名的孤证“甲戌”

Yingju, Caixin, Pangyuan, Xuepan(styled Wenqi文起) and Dai(代)yu, these names in the Jimao and Gengchen Versions of Stone Tale are respectively Yinglian (homophone to pitiful), Yuxin(homophone to stupid), Fengyuan(homophone to wronged), Xuepan(styled Wenlong文龙) and Dai(黛)yu in the Jiaxu Version. This change of the Characters' names indicates that the Jiaxu Version is a revised version of the Jimao and Gengchen Versions. Therefore, the Jiaxu Version must be finished later than the Jimao and Gengchen Versions. The copier of the Jiaxu Version must have mistaken the name “Jiaxu'.
