Hedges have attractexl many scholars' attention. This paper makes an inquiry into the communicative functions hedges perform in CCTV-I program 'Talk as It Is' in maintaining 'one's own face' , 'the other participants' face' and 'ihe audience's face' within the framework of Brown & Levinson's face theory.
