as the so-called 'marine silk road' has been heated in recent years, the discussion on the entering-china route of manichaeism is inclined to be non-academic. from a pure academic perspective, this article proves that the ming religion prevailing on the coastal area of fujian was not introduced through marine route during the song and yuan periods. this religion was in fact transformed from the tang manichaeism which was introduced through the land silk road. therefore, the introduction of manichaeism into the fujian coastal area shows the indirect diffusion between ancient cultures. the unique academic value of this case study is thus highlighted, i.e., the interaction of manichaeism and min (fujian) culture is a novel subject in the field of historical anthropology.
