摘要
《芬尼根的守灵》中最难的就是乔伊斯自造的词语,包括混成词、变形词、组合词以及以不合语法的方式任意插入的外来词和专有名词。《守灵》中作者自造的词语起着复杂的作用:既帮助作者突破既有词语所包含的社会束缚,又通过设置迷宫来保持读者的兴趣,同时词语无限衍伸的可能性使文本成为一个不确定的开放空间,而这些词语对听觉的强调又包含着对英国殖民文化的反抗。
The most difficult part in Finnegans Wake is the self-made words which include portmanteau words, transformed words, combined words and nomenclatures which are used ungrammatically and arbitrarily. Those self-made words have complicated functions: to help the author to transcend the social constraints implied in the ready-made words and to attract readers in its word labyrinth. Besides, the potentiality of infinite explanation makes the text an uncertain and open space. The emphasis on the sounds of those words implies the resisting of the colonial culture of England, too.
