Metaphors of Mood and Ancient Chinese Poetry Translation

本文以韩礼德的语法隐喻理论为基础,借用英汉语语气隐喻对比研究的有关成果,指出了在古汉诗英译中正确理解原诗语气隐喻对于再现原诗神韵的重要性。

Based on Halliday’s theory of grammatical metaphors,and aided with the research results in the contrastive study of metaphors of mood in English and Chinese, this paper holds that correct understanding of the metaphors of mood in ancient Chinese poetry is vital to the appropriate reproduction of “spirit” in the target language.
