On the Rhetoric Aspects of Narrative in Poe's Short Novels

19世纪美国作家爱伦·坡是一位独特的作家。他生不逢时,但是在当代批评语境下,却受到了多种理论话语的青睐。造成坡小说文本众说纷纭的一个重要原因,即是坡小说的叙事修辞。“言此意彼”的叙事方式在坡的小说创作中表现出两种修辞变体:寓意与反讽。前者关注表层意义背后的深层意义,而后者关注的却是叙事者的表述态度。反讽修辞又使爱伦·坡的小说叙事增加了幽默和喜剧的色彩。

Edgar Ellan Poe, an American writer in 19th century, is a unique one. He was born in a wrong era, but now he got much attention of many theory discourses in modern critic theory context. There are two rhetoric anamorphoses in Poe's novels about 'say this but refer to that': allegory and irony. The former pays close attention to the interior meaning under the exterior meaning, but the latter reckons with the expressing attitude of the narrator. The irony makes Poe's novels have such features as humor and comic effects.
