5-Sodium sulfo bis-(hydroxyethyl) isophthalate(SIPE) was synthesized by the transesterification of 5-sodium sulfoisophthalic acid dimethyl ester (SIPM) with ethylene glycol(EG) in the presence of catalyst at certain temperature. The ester exchanging rate was determined by HPLC. The effects of catalysts, the ratio of EG/SIPM and reaction time on the ester exchanging rate of SIPE were studied.
