John K. Fairbank and His Influence on the Readjustment of U.S. Policies to China in 1940’s

费正清是美国哈佛大学教授、著名的中国问题专家,也是影响美国对华政策的重要智囊之一。20世纪40年代,他两度来华通过对中国自由派知识分子的命运、对腐败的国民党政府和对共产党人的观察、思考,认为国民党政府气数已尽,美国必须调整其对华政策。正是由于费正清等人的远见卓识和极力建议,美国决策层及时地调整了对华政策,从而在客观上加速了中国人民解放战争的进程。

John K. Fairbank is professor in Harvard University, a famous American expert on China issues and one of the most important wise men affecting U.S. policies to China. He came to China twice in the 1940's, during which by observing and rethinking of the terrible fate of the Chinese liberal intellectuals, the corrupt KMT government and the Communists, he came to the conclusion that KMT was doomed to fail and the United States had to readjust its policies to China. It's just the far-sightedness and energetic suggestions from Johnk. Fairbank, et al. that the U.S. policy-making body timely readjusted its policy to China, which helped to step up the course of the liberation of the Chinese people.
