彭祖考略

A Brief Textual Research of Pengzu

彭祖和彭铿的故事最早见于战国时《国语》、《庄子》、《荀子》和《天问》等书,这是彭祖故事的源流,后世的注家就把这种种的故事联系起来,魏晋道教学者又添加了许多自己的杜撰,彭祖的故事滚雪球似的壮大起来,终于融为一体,既迷离恍惚又丰富多彩。其中彭祖故事仙话化的过程特别引人注目,葛洪的《抱朴子》以及一些古小说如《列仙传》等,在传播彭祖故事中都发挥了重要作用。

Stories about Pengzu and Pengkeng emerging earliest in books such as Guoyu, Zhuangzi, Xunzi, and Tianwen etc. , in the Warring States, is the origination of the stories about Pengzu. Annotators of later times combined all such stories together, while Taoists of the Wei and Jin dynasties added to it many of their own fabrications so that it snowballed and integrated into one that is so colorful and misted and dreamlike. The deifying process of Pengzu is especially notable among other things. For the spread of Pengzu ' s story, the book <Baopuzi>by Ge Hong and certain ancient fictions like< Stories of Divinities> played an important role.
